The Muban Educational Trust and the promotion of the Chinese woodcut print: Since May 2009, the Trust has continued the aims of the Muban Foundation. The Directors of the Trust are well aware of the need to not only consolidate and extend the collection through further purchases, but also to develop a more vigorous approach to the work of scholarly enquiry, exhibitions, publications and a more general outreach through greater access and promotion. These aims are constrained only by a lack of funds and personnel.The Trust seeks to adopt a diverse and interactive approach in its support for printmaking in mainland China by providing a doorway to collectors, galleries, exhibitions and collaborative ventures for Chinese artists and to act as a single-minded guardian for this most important of China’s many inventions.

In 2010, the Trust was the enabling sponsor for and contributor to the Conference The Colour Print in China 1600-1800 held at Sotheby’s Institute of Art, London in June 2010. The Conference invited scholars from China, France, Germany, Japan, the UK and the USA and attracted delegates from museums, public collections together with private individuals with an interest in China.

In 2013 The Trust was given Charitable Status by the Charity Commissioners.

In 2014 the Trust completed the pictorial and biographical archive of the collection which will enable access by both specialists and non-specialists alike.

Academics, students and general visitors are welcome by appointment only. Please note that only those prints from the 1940s onwards are housed in Putney and available to view.
